Spray pen techniques

Welcome to our next edition of techniques!  This month we are featuring techniques using our Spray Pen.  If you are coming from Sheila's blog then you are on the right track!  Today I thought I'd show you a different use for these pens.  I have been contemplating making some coffee filter flowers, but wanted an aged look to my flowers.  This has been rolling around in my head for some time, I just couldn't wrap my brain around how to get the look I was after....but then I had an idea.
I started with a brown coffee filter and aged it up a bit with some bleach in my spray pen.  After I got it faded just the right amount, I added a bit of color with my water based marker and some plain water in a different spray pen.


After the flowers were finished, I had to find a project to put them on since they turned out exactly like I had envisioned them.  Recently I discovered a need to add 2 more stockings to my mantel, so while I was stuck at home during the ice storm, I sewed up 5 new stockings for the family.  The flowers made the perfect decoration for my glamorous meets rustic look!

To create the flowers you will need the following supplies:
Brown paper coffee filters
2 Spray Pens
Water based marker
Florist tape

I used 100% bleach in my pen, you can cut it with water if you don't want as much fading to your flowers.  Play around with a mixture and see what you like best.  Oh and I suggest a well vented room for this project....the bleach gets to be a bit stinky!!
