Something Old and Something New - Heart 2 Heart Challenges

Welcome to a brand new year of challenges at Heart to Heart Challenge blog.  I hope you are truly inspired by our design teams creations and will join us each week.  This weeks challenge is to pair Something Old and Something New.  I had an extra challenge with this one since my craft studio is still in boxes from my recent move and finding something old OR new is quite a challenge!!  Luckily I spent the weekend at my parents house and my mother has a smorgasbord of old CTMH paper packets!  Thanks Mom!

For my card I have paired the long since retired paper packet Silhouette with pieces from both the Snowhaven and Chalk It Up paper packets in our current idea book.  The black dotted paper from Silhouette worked perfectly with the dots from both the current packets. I added a tiny piece of floral paper from Silhouette to tie in the flowers from the Snowhaven Compliments.  Isn't it wonderful how the pieces from the individual packets in the Annual Inspirations catalog all work together!!

Heartfelt Sentiments Paper Focus-November

Welcome to another month of the Heartfelt Sentiments Team Paper Focus Blog Hop.  This month we are focusing on Snowhaven.  If you are coming from Melissa's blog then you are on the right track!  Be sure to visit all the blogs for some great inspiration for this paper packet.

As I'm sure you've seen from past posts, this is one of my favorite paper packets in the Annual Inspiration Book.  It has so many uses other than winter/cold/snow photos.  This is layout captures a quick photo I took of my daughter and granddaughter one afternoon. The title from the compliments set went perfectly with the photo.  I added some hand made flowers - the black two are made from gathered tull and the red is paper inked up with some black ink.  The tiny flowers are paper stamped with one of the dotted background stamp then punched from a punch I spied at the retreat I was at last weekend.  Add some blingy swirls and it's done!  After I was done I realized I hadn't distressed one bit of this layout and that it really isn't my style, but I enjoyed creating it...hmmm maybe my style is changing?

My Favorite

This week at Heart to Heart Challenges we are starting a whole new month of challenges.  Today we are showcasing our favorite color combos in connection with our monthly scrapbook challenge.

I didn't think I really had a "favorite" color combo, but in looking back at my creations over the last few weeks I discovered that black, white and light blue seems to be my go-to color combination now.  I really like how the 3 colors contrast each other!

My layout this week has just a bit of the color combinations, but just enough to give the piece some contrast.  I added in a bit of cranberry red for added interest.   Can you spot the staples on the layout?  They are plain silver, but with just a few strokes of my ShinHan marker, I changed them to a blue color to match the layout! (Color the staples before you put them in the stapler) You'll note the absence of photo's on my layout - I'm "pre-designing" layouts to use when our new addition arrives this month.  

This layout is inspired by a photo my cousin took of his baby daughter and my mother.  

My plan is to take a picture of Me, Jess and my mom all holding Nicole in this blue rocker after she arrives later this month.




I think I have used this paper packet as much as I can...well maybe I'll use it for accent pieces, but now it's time to go on to a new favorite combo. What is your favorite color combo?  Please share your creations with us at H2H challenges!

Technique Blog Hop - August, 2014

Welcome to a new year of blog hops featuring tips and techniques from the Close To My Heart Annual Inspirations Ideabook.  Each month we will share with you projects focused on a tip or technique found in the Ideabook.  If you don't have a copy of the new Ideabook yet...let me know, I will be happy to send you one!!
This month we are featuring the "All Lit Up" technique shown on page 88 of the book. It's amazing how a bit of glitter paper in your project brightens the entire look up!  If you are coming from Tonya's blog then you are on the right track!!  Be sure to visit all our designers blogs this month for some really great and glittery ideas!

For my card I chose to add the silver glitter paper (retired but beautiful) behind my snowflakes to add that sparkle that they have as they are falling from the sky!  The overlay for the card is cut from the Artbooking Cricut Cartridge at 5 1/4 inches.  It fits perfectly on this 6X6 card.  I added a bit of patterned paper from our Snowhaven Collection onto a base of the new Glacier card stock....I adore this black and glacier dotted piece of paper!!  The sentiment is from a new stamp set  Frosty Fun - it's got some really cute images for coloring that I can't wait to try out!!
