Home for Christmas

It's been quite a while since I shared a card with you all.  Been busy busy busy with my daughters wedding, but now that its over I finally have a chance to do some paper crafting!

This week on Card A Day Blog we are sharing Home for Christmas themed cards.  What a fabulous time it is for me to start up again as Christmas cards are my favorite cards to make.

I've seen a boat load of these window cards looking into the window from outside, so I decided to switch it around and make mine looking out of it.  I have a cute Winter Village stamp set from Close To My Heart that I've been wanting to stamp and color so this was the perfect card for it.  The tree is created with a single branch stamp from Stamps by Judith, stamped in a tree pattern.  All the paper is from the scrap drawer.  You can barely see it in this photo, but the wainscoting on the bottom of the wall is created using my score pal at 1/4" increments.

Let Freedom Ring

Today I'm sharing with you a card I made for the Card A Day Blog.  Can you guess what the theme is?

My creation is a combination of several cards I've seen....I'm really intrigued by the tri-fold shutter cards and decided this was a perfect theme to give a try on.  And - the best part is that is made entirely from scraps!  Gotta love using up those scraps!

Here is a view of the card in the closed position....you'd never know when you open it that it would be so very interactive!

And since you can't see it in the first photo very well here's a photo of the sentiment on the center flap.  Love the little boy and girl on it!

Today is Thank You day on the Card A Day blog.  Here's one I made that is quite similar to a recent pin.....

The card is made of scraps from Graphic 45's French Country collection - I love this line so much I believe I will use every teeny tiny piece before I'm done!  The sentiment is created in a Word table....such a great idea with so many uses just by rearranging the letters!  I finished it up with various accessories from Tim Holtz, Close To My Heart and Stampin' Up...

Welcome to my NEW Obsession

Hello everyone!  I was thrilled to see the theme this week at Card A Day blog is thinking of you, it gave me the perfect opportunity to play with our latest toys.....which has quickly become an obsession!  While at the Scrapbook Expo last month, we discovered a new brand of Alcohol Markers.

I've never played alot with Alcohol Markers - mostly because Copics are so expensive and other company's selections are a bit lacking - We discovered the Spectrum Noir markers and the really good price they are (ave. of $2.00 each) and went to town coloring!  I have to tell you, this is one of the most relaxing things I have done in a long time.  I could (and have) spend hours coloring on an image.  The sunflowers on my card took me about 3 hours to color.....perhaps I'm too picky about the finished image - or maybe I will get quicker with practice - either way I had so much fun doing these I really didn't want to stop.  I find myself looking at stamps in a whole new way now!

Stay tuned in later April (after tax season) we will be offering a series of classes for you to attend and join us creating with this fabulous medium!

For Baby

This week at Card A Day Blog we are featuring Baby Cards.  Today I would like to share with you this vintage style baby card.

Made with all kinds of products from our stash, this swing card opens to reveal the complete flourish with a small space to write attached to the back of the circle .
I think any mother would be thrilled to receive a card like this and put it in their baby book.

Did you notice the little teddy bear in the carriage?  Isn't he stinkin' cute?  He started out being silver so I colored him with a nice brown alcohol marker so he'd fit the theme better.

Let them eat Cake!

Today's theme on the Card-A-Day Blog is weddings.  My card celebrates the day with one of a wedding's more important parts.

I love the detailing on the cake, created simply by running a piece of cardstock through an embossing folder, cut into graduated length strips and rounding the corners.  How you decorate your cake depends on your couple.  With no one in particular in mind, I chose to use purple rhinestones to match my iridescent purple background paper.  With the addition of some tiny flowers, pearls and bits of lace my cake is complete.

Themed Events - Invitations

Today I'd like to share with you this invitation and save the date card for an upcoming themed event.

When hosting a themed event, I like to give the guests a little hint of the theme with the design of the cards they receive.  This is a very special event at our house.

The save the date card is a simple white note card printed from word.  I made the fairy on the front by punching a heart shape from velum, then cut it in half and added a large blue rhinestone.  I outlined the wings with a metalic pin on the card so they show up better.


The inside of the bifold card reveals the invitation to my daughter's wedding.  I cut the scroll on the Cricut that I used the Cricut Craft Room program to get the size I needed for my invitation.  The poles holding the scroll are scraps of chocolate cardstock that have been stamped with a tone on tone technique then inserted in the opening. The band holding the card shut is cut from scraps of cardstock. I printed the  invitation here on velum, but I might try printing on the actual cut out for the rest of them. I've got about 75 of these to make, so the easier I can make it the better!

By the way, can you guess the theme of the wedding?  There will be some guests who will have no idea what it is, but those who know Jess and Del well will know as soon as they open the envelope!

Under the Weather

Welcome back to another card creation from the Card A Day blog.  This week we are featuring Get Well cards.  Unfortunately, I know way too many people who are sick right now, so I've been checking the blog out for inspiration daily.

For my card, I decided to create something a little different.  I've been wanting to use Tim Holtz's Umbrella Man Die Cut on something and this card was a fabulous way to do so!

I wanted my umbrella man to look like rusted metal so first I went into my back yard and stared at some real live rusted metal for quite some time.  After absorbing the look, I choose a piece of Cocoa cardstock for my base, then sanded the tar out of it before running through the die.  Then I went to work distressing it with inks and tools.  I'm not sure I completely caught the look I was after, but all in all I'm pretty good with it.

To create the gears I used the scraps of the sanded cardstock, then used a punch that cuts small flowers and cut several.  Next, I trimmed the petals of the flowers off straight, inked them up a bit and ta-da a teeny little gear for my card.

I am thrilled to tell you that I have joined the design team at Card A Day blog!  I haven't created cards in some time, but have found myself pinning them like crazy and am excited to actually use some of the pins as inspirations for the blog.

Today's theme is Thank You cards.  

My card was inspired by a combination of several pinned cards that really caught my eye!  The great thing about cards is using up scraps.  Boy do we have scraps!!  Everything on the card is from our stash.  The Eiffel Tower and Frame are cut from a Cricut Cartridge.  A favorite technique of mine is to spritz seam binding with a bit of water and scrunch it up into a ball and set to dry.  This makes bunching it up on your project a lot easier.
